New Bike Park eTool Offers Guidance for Communities
Posted August 10, 2026
The Chester County Planning Commission recently launched a new Bike Park eTool to help municipalities plan, build, expand, and enhance bike parks within their communities.
Bike parks are dedicated recreational facilities designed primarily for bicycles, although some may also accommodate scooters and skateboards. They can include pump tracks, skills parks or bicycle playgrounds, jump lines, and features designed for riders of varying ages and abilities.
Bike parks provide safe and welcoming places for outdoor recreation while promoting physical activity, bringing communities together, and potentially attracting visitors who support nearby businesses. Successful facilities begin with thoughtful planning, community input, and consideration of local needs and available resources.
CCPC's new eTool explains the different types of bike parks and their features while providing guidance on community outreach, planning, local ordinances, design, funding, construction, and ongoing maintenance. It also highlights examples from Chester County and beyond and connects municipalities with additional resources and potential funding opportunities.
